Reliance Life Insurance Company Limited is one of the five associate companies of Reliance Capital Ltd. of the Reliance - Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group. The company came into existence by acquiring 100 per cent stake in AMP Sanmar Life Insurance Company in August 2005. Reliance Life Insurance got a readymade infrastructure and a portfolio by taking over AMP Sanmar Life

Earlier,AMP Sanmar Life Insurance was a joint venture between AMP, Australia and the Sanmar Group with its headquarter in Chennai. AMP Sanmar had appointed more than 900 employees and over 9,000 agents in more than 90 offices across the country.

-RLIC is one of the two Life Insurance companies in India that has been certified as ISO 9001:2000 company for all the processes that are being religiously followed and implemented.

-RLIC was awarded the Jamnalal Bajaj Uchit Vyavahar Puraskar 2007- Ceritificate of Merit in the Financial Services category by Council for Fair Business Practices (CFBP).

-It has been increasing its distribution network all over the country at a very fast pace and in a short span of time of 10 months opened 600 branches thus taking the overall branch network above 740.

-The market share of RLIC in new business premium amongst the private players increased by 4.1% in the Financial Year 2007-08 – from 3.9% in April 07 to 8% in Feb.

-RLIC has achieved the growth rate of 195% in new business premium and has sold more than 1.7 million policies after taking over AMP Sanmar business and continues to be amongst the fastest growing Private Life Insurance Companies in India.
